Neelakurinji, a shrub found in the shola forests of Western Ghats, attracts tourists around the world, and this year it is back. There are 40 different types of Neelakurinji(strobilanthes kunthianus), and most of them are blue in colour. The plant is usually 30 to 60 cm high on the hills. They used to cover the hills like a carpet during its flowering season. They were last seen in 2006, and you can catch them this year between July and October.

 

 

Munnar which is known for Neelakurinji sightings. You can get superb views from Kovilur, Kadavari, Rajamala and Eravikulam National Park. Because this is an extraordinary sighting, tourists can avail special tours and treks that occur during that time of the year.

 

The Neelkurinji blooms in 2018 are an opportunity for all nature lovers and botanists to marvel at the wonders of nature.
