Peermade Hill Station

Peermade hill station in Kerala located 85 km east of Kottayam (southern part of the Idukki District) is at an altitude of 915m above sea level. This pleasant hill station was once the summer retreat of the Maharajas of Travancore.

The Sufi saint and an associate of the rulers Peer Mohammed lends his name to Peermade. Peermade thus means the hill of the Peer. Peermade is indeed a cool hill resort in Kerala. Peermade has since long attracted the trekkers, nature lovers, picnickers alike. As a hill resort Peermade has also been providing refuge to the sun scorched souls from the plains.

Peermade Tea Plantation: Peermade is surrounded by Tea plantations. A tour of Tea estates and factories is popular amongst the tourists.

Peermade Waterfall: Waterfall at Peermade is another major tourist attraction. Picturesque waterfalls at Nallathanni, Valanjamkanam and Panchalimedu worth visiting while at Peermade.

Adventure Sports: Peermade is an ideal place for trekking, cycling and horse riding. Peeru Hills, Kalthotti, Vagamon along with Karandakapara Hills, Grampi or Parunthupara, Memala are some of the terrific trekking routes in Peermade.

Periyar Wildlfe Sanctuary: One of the largest wildlife reserves in India, this is just 43 kms (travel time: 1hour) from Peermade. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is renowned for its tigers, elephants, sambar, flying squirrels, etc. The Government Guest House offers a cozy and comfortable stay at this hill station.
