Eravikulam National Park

Eravikulam National Park located 15 km from Munnar is situated in the Devikulam Taluk of the Idukki District. It is situated on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the north where it is extends as the Annamalai National Park. The place is especially known for supporting a large population of the Nilgiri tahr, a mountain goat seen in parts of south India. Besides the Nilgiri tahr other important fauna are elephant, leopard, tiger, malabar civet, sambar, barking deer, nilgai, langur, phyhon etc. The birds found are imperial pigeon, grey jungle fowl etc. The park remains open for visitors throughout the year except for a small period between January and March. The best time to visit the park is in the months of September and October, when the entire area is covered with greenery and blooming flowers and which is also the best time for animal spotting. Eravikulam also an ideal place for trekking in Kerala, facilities is provided here and tourists are allowed to go on foot up to Anamudi.
