Wellington Island Kochi

Wellington Island is one of the major tourist attractions in Cochin, Kerala. Willingdon Island is a man made island created from the sand dug out while deepening Kochi port in 1933. It has been named after Lord Willingdon, the former Madras governor, who was instrumental in implementing this island project. This is a beautiful island surrounded by backwaters, situated 30 km from Cochin and is now the home to the Cochin Port and the headquarters of Southern Naval Command.

Wellington Island is a major artificial port in India and serves as a major landmark in the Kochi city of Kerala. The Wellington Island also serves as a link between the city and some other seaports of the world.
