Kolkali is a traditional folk art of Kerala. Kolkkali, also called Kolukali, Koladi, etc, is believed to be a dance form that is more than thousand years old. During Kolkali dance twelve to twenty four dancers move rhythmically in a circle around the ceremonial lamp, tapping the two feet long wooden sticks held in their hands. During the performance, the dancers move in a circle, striking small sticks and keeping rhythm with their steps. The circle expands and contracts as the dance progresses. The accompanying music gradually rises in pitch till the dance reaches its climax.
